For this project I drew from silhouettes and shapes in Cristobal Balenciaga’s early designs. I focused on the relationship these silhouettes had to the body of the wearer and how fitted and customised each garment was to the wearer. I wanted to create something that can be flattering and wearable without this same exclusivity. Something multiple people can wear. With influence from these silhouettes I wanted to depict them in a streetwear lense and through the use of an extremely accessible and inclusive fabric - denim. Fabric manipulation in the form of gathering and pleats are used in order to create a more inclusive garment, being able to be worn by multiple people of different sizes while also making minimal cuts into the fabric to create round shapes.
