THESIS COLLECTION - MAFIA QUEENS OF MUMBAI
This collection presents an imagined uniform for women in the mafia, based on real stories from the book - ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’. By using varied archetypes, this collection highlights the grey-area in society where the good & bad members overlap. The police and politician uniforms are representative of the ‘lawful’ side of society and the sari - an example of the ‘unlawful’. The reasoning for this is not only literal - these are garments worn by the ‘lawful’ or ‘unlawful’ people. It’s also visual - the sartorial construction of the ‘lawful’ garments presents as a direct contrast to the free drapery of the sari.
